Few years ago, Karan and Vishal joined the organization on the same date. Karan was provided the profile of a software developer while Vishal was given the role of testing the developed software. Their work profiles were randomly alloted in that particular organization.
Over a period of time, Karan’s role demanded a specific set of skills that he mastered while performing his job. His role provided the opportunity for him to create a niche in his organization. Just like the lotus rising in the pond after rains, Karan’s professional life grew with the running time. An opportunity was presented for him to grab and the seeker embraced it with utmost perfection.
During the same time period, Vishal’s role was limited to testing and he performed to his fullest potential. His work was no less than excellent. Unfortunately, his role neither demanded any major skill requirements nor provided him any base to upskill. While his teammates didn’t do much about this, Vishal scheduled his time to learn and upgrade himself outside work. Though it came at a cost, he never regretted it. He carved a niche for himself outside his role. The growth opportunity didnot present itself to him unlike it did to Karan. Vishal was not promoted.
Unexpected global market fluctuations, tough business environment and the need to develop and bring in A.I. cognizance to eliminate repetitive work led to the leaning of the organization. A globalised work set-up is vulnerable to such acts and needs immediate corrections. Most software testing executives were let free to keep the organization floating and to survive in the global competitive arena. Vishal was given a notice of 3 months.
To continue surviving, the organization needed a fresh kind of skilled human resources to work on services that can meet the customer needs immediately. When the organization was in look-out for the consultants, Vishal happened to already have the required skillsets.
There is one thing about the opportunity here. Vishal had taken care of the preparedness very well. The opportunity grabbed Vishal and not the other way.
Vishal is in demand now and that the success follows preparedness is a truth.
